Tighten – Pull the strap as tight as possible. Turn the windlass – Use the windlass (tension rod) to tighten further until the bleeding stops. Lock in place – Securely fasten the windlass with the locking mechanism. Note the time – Write down or communicate the time the tourniquet was applied. This is important for medical personnel.
